Add printers remotely using \\computername => add printers permission error.
Hi, We are trying to add printers remotely to computers running W7 in the same way we did with XP. We go to \\computername => hit view external printers => hit add printers & then we get an error message saying we don't have permission. I am domainadminstrator so no issues there. Also i've enabled printer sharing on the destination computer but no dice. Does anyone have a clue on how to resolve this issue? Grtz.Don't forget about Alt+Esc!

Hi Wesleedb, Please double check if the "Network discovery" and "File and printer sharing" settings are turned on in all of your machines. For more information, please refer to: File and printer sharing: frequently asked questions Also, make sure your firewall allows file and printer sharing. You can also temporary disable the firewall to test the result. If the issue persists, you can refer to this article for more suggestions: Why are computers missing from the network map For more information, please refer to this thread: Windows 7 - View Remote Printers Regards, Linda TechNet Subscriber Support in forum If you have any feedback on our support, please contact tngfb@microsoft.com Please remember to click “Mark as Answer” on the post that helps you, and to click “Unmark as Answer” if a marked post does not actually answer your question. Hi Linda, Thx for your reply but nothing seems to help. As said in the w7 -view remote printers treath. If you share a printer and then disable it again it works fine until you reboot. So if anyone knows what actually happens when you share a printer plz tell :).Don't forget about Alt+Esc!

Hi Wesleedb, Please check the printer security settings and see if Everyone is in the group list. Make sure Everyone is not denied in the security settings. If the issue persists, could you please capture a screenshot of the error message occurs? Capture screenshot ============ 1. Please reproduce this issue, and then press the Print Screen key (PrtScn) on your keyboard. 2. Click the "Start" menu, type "mspaint" in the Search Bar and Press Enter. 3. In the Paint program, click the "Edit" menu, click "Paste", click the "File" menu, and click "Save". 4. The "Save As" dialogue box will appear. Type a file name in the "File name:" box, for example: "screenshot". 5. Make sure "JPEG (*.JPG;*.JPEG;*.JPE;*.JFIF)" is selected in the "Save as type" box, click "Desktop" on the left pane and then click "Save". 6. Please upload the screenshot to your SkyDrive at www.skydrive.live.com and let us know the link. Well i've checked the security settings & everyone is listed. I have tried giving them all permissions but that doens't help. You can find a screenshot of the error message here: http://cid-83e0d14149e47abe.photos.live.com/self.aspx/Shared/printer.JPG It's dutch meaning; you do not have the correct permissions to do this. It happens when i hit the "Een printer toevoegen" (add printer).Don't forget about Alt+Esc!

Does the issue still occur after disabling the firewall on both Windows 7 machine and the printer server. If the issue persists, you can use Process Monitor to monitor the processes on both sides to see if there is any suspicious process is blocking the access.
